Dimensions and Limits of the Academic Freedom Index (AFI) – in English

"What do we actually refer to when we talk about academic freedom? What are its criteria? How can they be constituted? And how can they be measured? In the final event of our lecture- and discussion series this semester – to be continued next semester – we will take an international perspective and look with Dr. Lars Pelke at the Academic Freedom Index (AFI) that his team has developed with the V-Dem Institute (funded by the Volkswagen Foundation). As a critical discussant Dr. Asli Telli, digital media scholar and member of the Academics for Peace (Turkey/Germany), will relate Turkey's low position on the Index with questions for structural unfreedoms and democratic deficits in the German academic system.“
